Research shows that the ingredient called allicin in garlic scavenges hydroxyl radicals, which in turn prevents LDL getting oxidized. So LDL, which leads to cardiovascular disease, can be avoided by taking garlic regularly. The National Health and Medical Research Council have proved that a clove of garlic a day can reduce cholesterol level up to 9%.

Eating one clove of garlic everyday results in lowering blood pressure, lower triglycerides and prevent atherosclerosis. The allicin and diallyl disulphide, are sulphur compounds present in garlic helps to enlarge the blood vessels thereby improving the flow of blood through out the body regularly. This proper flow of blood reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke due to high blood pressure.

The allicin in garlic increases the antioxidant enzymes and gluthathione peroxidase in the blood. It fights against the damaging effects of nicotine and helps in maintaining the condition of liver. Garlic has essential ingredients that can fight against cancer cells. Intake of garlic regularly lowers the risk of many type of cancer like breast cancer, renal cell cancer, ovarian cancer, prostate cancer etc.

Garlic is a healthy food due to its antibiotic and blood cleansing property. Garlic is to be taken crushed or chopped, as in this form it releases all active compounds in it. Garlic can be taken as a combination in treating acne, inflammation and weight reduction treatment.
